TERMS AND CONDITIONS.        (as of Jan 2015, however terms & conditions may be subject to change)

GENERAL:

We will endeavour to PAT test all appliances on your property as per the  IET 4th Edition Codes of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (usually known as the  4th Edn.)

We will make informed judgement on the period of retest based on the 4th Edn. Recommendations, in most cases this will be 12 months. We will advise on any discrepancy from that period.

We will apply charges for testing at the following rates (as of Jan 2015) these rates are subject to change but any changes will be notified to you at the outset.

  • First 50 BASIC test items, all documentation and certification, survey (if required) £64.00

  • 51 to 100 BASIC test items £1.45 per item (in addition to basic £64.00 charge)

  • 101 or more BASIC test items £1.35 per item (in addition to any of the above)

BASIC test items are defined as appliances or tools for (110v, 240v or 3 phase) fitted with standard mains electrical plugs of any type and including I.T. equipment, extension leads and ‘plugtop’ power supply/charger units.

MICROWAVE OVENS:  We will normally perform a standard PAT test on any microwave ovens on your premises as part of the ‘BASIC’ test package stated above. In addition we will be happy to do an RF radiation leakage test on the oven, and issue a compliance certificate and label completely free of charge!

13 AMP Wall Sockets: It is our normal practice to do random ‘quick-check’ tests on 13amp electrical sockets to check for correct wiring. There is no charge for this service. Note however that if the ring main circuit is found to be faulty we will advise you accordingly but may not be able to proceed with any further testing.

NOT included in the above:

NON BASIC test items include ‘hard wired’ items like hand driers, water heaters, electric radiators, electric ovens etc. These involve additional work and time and will be charged separately (usually between £5.00 and £15.00 per item) we will discuss this with you before proceeding, however in most cases the re-test period for these items will be longer, usually either 24 or 36 months.

RCD testing:  We will perform a suite of 7 different safety tests on each RCD unit and will issue a certification stating the trip times at each of the test levels. Costs for RCD testing are £2.50 for ‘plug-in’ or individual socket type RCD devices. £10.00 for RCD devices fitted in the consumer unit.

PLEASE BE AWARE  that testing the latter type WILL involve temporary disruption to electrical equipment in your premises, for that reason we will discuss the testing with you before proceeding!

WE  STRONGLY RECOMMEND  that RCD units are checked regularly by the customer, by pressing the [test] button followed by the [reset] button. RCD units genuinely ARE  life saving devices, and when fitted to extension cables and power tools (particularly outdoor equipment) this should be done before EVERY use!

ITEM FAILURE:

All items tested will be given a ‘PASS’ or ‘FAIL’ designation, shown by a red or green label attached to the appliance.  Items which FAIL may sometimes be corrected with minor repair work (replacing a cracked plug for example) we are happy to do this work for you if required, although there will be a small extra fee for parts and labour which we will advise you about. On completion of any remedial work a PAT re-test will be done at no extra charge.

Items which fail and are not easily or quickly repairable will be given a red ‘FAIL’ sticker and recorded in the safety log as having failed. It is the customers responsibility to arrange to have the item repaired or replaced, or to dispose of it in a safe and environmental manner.

(Note that if you replace a failed item with a brand new replacement, the item is automatically deemed to be ‘safety tested’ for 6 months as long as it has the European CE mark, so please keep the receipt!)

PAYMENT:

On completion of testing, all test items will be given a ‘PASS’ or ‘FAIL’ sticker. Within 7 days you will be sent an itemised invoice for the full amount (which is due within 14 days of the date of invoicing) along with a folder containing the testing safety certificates for your premises and copies of the test gear calibration certificates. Please keep this folder somewhere safe, although additional copies are available for a small fee. If you have any queries about the work done, the  invoice or the amount, please contact us within that 14 day period, we will do whatever we can to resolve any problems for you.

Payment can be by cheque, bank transfer or by PayPal. We can take card payment over the phone, by mobile  or via the internet, we can also take debit or credit card payments directly. If you wish to pay by this method (or pay cash) please contact us and we will be happy to come and see you.

PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunatly we have to make a £1.50 surcharge for all card payments.

Once payment has been received you will receive an itemised receipt for your files.
